Blackfish – The Movie
If you love wildlife where they should be, living in their natural habitats, this 2013 documentary is a must-watch.
Blackfish is a psychological thriller about Seaworld’s infamous Orca, Tilikum. Killer whales are beloved, majestic, friendly giants, yet infamous for their capacity to kill viciously. Blackfish unravels the complexities of this dichotomy, employing the story of the notorious performing whale Tilikum, who – unlike any orca in the wild – has taken the lives of several people while in captivity. Blackfish expands on the discussion of keeping such intelligent creatures in captivity.

As a result of the movie, in March 2017 United States Congressman Rick Larsen of Washington announced his co-sponsorship of the Orca Responsibility and Care Advancement (ORCA).
“This groundbreaking act would put a permanent end to orca captivity and breeding in the U.S., the capture of wild orcas, and ban the import and export of orcas for the purpose of public display.” According to Larsen “Orcas are an iconic and beloved part of Pacific Northwest culture. Passing the ORCA Act will ensure future generations of orcas stay where they belong: in the wild, not in captivity.”
